Butterball
Four Years is a Long Time to Wait—That's 28 Dog Years!
Let's Find Butterball a Home.
Did you know that more than half of the dogs available for adoption through CAWS are over 6 years old? No matter their age or circumstances, when CAWS makes a commitment to an animal, we make it for life. CAWS never stops working to find happy, loving homes for any animal in our program.
In honor of Adopt a Senior month, we feature one of the dogs who has been with us the longest and who has become a senior while waiting to find a permanent home.
Butterball came to CAWS in late 2009, when her owners lost their home and were going to euthanize her. A neighbor asked CAWS to intervene and save her.
Now a 12-year-old senior, sassy Butterball has been in a few different foster homes and is currently settled into the home of one of our dedicated foster pet-parents where she receives love and stability. Butterball is loving, well-behaved, and trustworthy—left to roam the house while her "hu-mama" is at work. She enjoys spending time outside, basking in the sun.
Through the years she has attended more than 50 weekend adoption events and six Super Adoptions, lounging quietly on her plush orthopedic dog bed, munching on a dog bone, wagging her tail, and waiting to be petted by any passersby. She has stolen the hearts of many CAWS volunteers and gives enthusiastic tail wags and smiles when she sees a familiar face. She would love to stop going to adoption events every weekend and settle into a place where she'll be cherished by an owner who can invest a little time introducing her into a new home with love and patience.

Please remember senior animals. They deserve to live out their golden years in the comfort of a warm bed and loving home. Visit Butterball, along with many other special seniors who are waiting for a new family, at one of our upcoming adoption events.
Shiva's Shocking Tale Needs a Happy Ending
On a hot summer day in June, a CAWS Cat Foster Coordinator and PetSmart store manager discovered a mother cat and her six 8-week old kittens crammed together in a small plastic storage bin that had been left by the store's dumpster. There was no water. The cats were in critical condition, dehydrated,  breathing shallowly through open mouths, and too weak to stand.
After being covered in cold, wet cloths, the cats started to stand on wobbly legs and drink cool water. Their breathing calmed and deepened. After about an hour, the glaze left their eyes and several of the kittens started to purr. They knew they were safe.
While the weakened cats were waiting to be picked up from a mandatory stay in the animal shelter, they contracted pneumonia. Once again, the cats were in a critical state and were rushed to a participating CAWS veterinarian. And once again, the mother cat, now called Shiva, and her babies endured.
They were eventually well enough to move  to a CAWS foster home. After several weeks in an attentive home environment, Shiva and her kittens recovered. Despite the cruelty and illness they suffered, they retained their sweet dispositions.
Most of the kittens were quickly adopted into new homes, where they are happy and thriving. Shiva and her kitten Ripley are available for adoption, waiting for their forever families to finally arrive.

Kate
A Fresh Start for Kate
When new owners were moving in, Kate was discovered inside a Brigham City home with a severe injury to her tail, requiring amputation. CAWS and Wilson Veterinary stepped in to help, and she is now on the mend. This beautiful, sweet girl will be available for adoption as soon as her stitches are removed.

Byron
Find a Foster for Byron
CAWS is in desperate need of new foster homes. Byron, a playful Pit Bull Terrier has been living at boarding facilities for 10 months now. Volunteers take him for walks, and he attends adoption events. But what this people lover really needs is to be the one-and-only in an adoptive or foster home. Please e-mail us if you can help.
